Pedestrian killed after collision with bus

A man has died after he was hit by a bus in Sydney.

The 39-year-old was hit along the Princes Hwy in Tempe, in the Inner West, about 12.15pm on Tuesday.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus driver, a 45-year-old man, was taken to Royal Prince Alfred hospital for mandatory testing.

The collision has closed all northbound lanes along the major highway between Forest Rd, Arncliffe, and Union St in Tempe, nearby to Sydney’s international and domestic airports.

Transport NSW have urged commuters to “expect significant delays” and to “use an alternative route”.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Tony Abbott calls for increased force at future protests

Former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott has called for stronger police force at future protests.

He thanked the NSW Police Force “for their strong actions last night” at the rally condemning the visit of genocide incitement-accused Israel president Isaac Herzog.

Abbott described the rally as “pro-terrorist” and called protestors “intimidatory”.

“It’s about time the police took control of the streets,” he said.

He also thanked NSW Premier Chris Minns for “showing the strength needed”.

The Premier stood behind police actions on Tuesday, and said he was “not going to throw the police under the bus” without first getting a well-rounded understanding of what happened.

Minns referred to an incident captured in footage which appears to show police landing rapid-fire punches on a protestor holding their hands up.

Other footage appears to show police aggressively handling Muslims kneeling in prayer.

Abbott told 2GB Radio on Tuesday: “I think it’s about time the fight back began.”

“We need to see tear gas and rubber bullets.”

Update on bones found in search of girls

Bones discovered during the search for two girls who went missing from the Adelaide Oval in 1973, are not of human origin, police have confirmed.

A privately funded search for evidence linked to the disappearance of 11-year-old Joanne Ratcliffe and four-year-old Kirste Gordon was launched at a Yatina property last year.

Bones discovered under a shed on the property once owned by former suspect Stanley Hart, was cut into five fragments before it was handed to police in July.

It has now been deemed non-human, but police said the disections made testing difficult.

“If the bone fragment had been human, the way it was handled, cut, and packaged could have significantly hindered the extraction of DNA and may have prevented the identification of a deceased person,” police said.

Two more bone fragments were also handed to police in September 2025.

A forensic anthropologist from Forensic Science South Australia has also determined that these bones are non-human. This opinion was peer reviewed and confirmed.

Fresh probe into disturbing 90s sexual assaults

Police are renewing their efforts to find a Central Coast predator.

They want to catch a man they believe is behind six horrific sexual assaults of young girls and women between 1997 and 2000.

On the sand, or on coastal and bushland pathways, unsuspecting victims between the age of 16 and 77 were chased, pulled into bushes, or forced to the ground before they were sexually assualted.

The attacks occurred at Shelly Beach, Forresters Beach, Budgewoi Beach, Putty Beach and Wambera.

One 16-year-old girl was sexually assualted when she tripped on a bush track while running away from the naked man chasing her and two other teen girls at the beach.

The predator was described to police, after each instance, as a tanned Caucasian man in his 40s with light-coloured hair and a solid build. He is likely now in his 70s.

Detectives have released an image of a ute they believe to be linked to the man, but said a white Hyundai Excel may have also been used in two of the offences.

“As time passes, people’s circumstances and allegiances change,” NSW Police said.

“Relationships shift, families grow apart, and individuals who may not have been willing or able to assist years ago may now feel differently. That’s why we’re renewing this appeal today.”

Charges laid after shots fired in home invasion

Charges have been laid in relation to a Western Sydney home invasion on Sunday.

A number of alleged offenders reportedly forced their way into a home on Marsden St at St Marys just before midnight.

They allegedly made a threat to the residents and fired a gun before fleeing.

A car crashed into a fence just minutes away, on Saddington St, and occupants “ran from the vehicle, NSW Police said.

Police arrested one 45-year-old man in a unit complex after a short foot chase. He was hospitalised for suspected crash injuries under police guard.

He has now been charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner. He was also charged with common assault over an unrelated matter.

The 45-year-old man will face Penrith Local Court on Tuesday, as investigations continue.

Islamophobia envoy to demand protest apology

Australia’s Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia has demanded a police apology.

Aftab Malik, government-appointed to the role in 2024, condemned “excessive and unprovoked” police force “against Muslims peacefully praying” at the Sydney rally on Monday evening.

He said the police-issued move-on order on the street did not include the Town Hall Square area where the group were praying, which Malik said was “not on a road or footpath, not obstructing access.”

He said police still reportedly used “aggression” against them, “including officers allegedly punching and grabbing people during prayer, throwing them onto the concrete, and using pepper spray.”

“This behaviour was unprovoked and unacceptable. This has to be condemned unequivocally.

“There cannot be any justification for this demeaning, aggressive and humiliating behaviour.

“I will be calling the NSW Premier and Police Commissioner expecting nothing short of a public apology and clear accountability for what occurred.

“This indeed is a very dark night.”

Man allegedly run over with car before stabbing

A man has allegedly run over a man and stabbed a woman before fleeing.

Police were called to a property in Piangil, near the Victorian regional town of Swan Hill, about 9pm on Monday.

They were responding to reports that items were being set on fire and thrown over a fence.

A man then got into white 4WD and deliberately drove into another man before crashing into the wall of a property, trapping the other man under the vehicle, police allege.

Investigators allege the man then got out of the 4WD and stabbed a woman before fleeing.

The alleged victims, a 61-year-old man and 47-year-old woman, also from Piangil, were both taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A 52-year-old Piangil man later handed himself into police and was taken into custody.

The trio is believed to be known to each other.

‘Knocked unconscious’: Women hit in alleged CBD attack

Police have charged a man over an alleged attack on three women in Canberra CBD.

The 38-year-old man is accused of knocking his former partner and her family member unconscious during an altercation, after the women approached him on Mort St.

“A bystander attempted to help the women, but the man allegedly struck her in the head as well,” ACT Policing said.

The 38-year-old man was arrested a short time later and police allegedly found “a bag of a white powder substance suspected of being cocaine” in his bag.

He was charged with family violence assault, assault, affray, and possessing a drug of dependence, and is set to face ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.

Motorcyclist killed on Queensland road

A motoryclist has been killed in a crash at Logan in rural Queensland.

He crashed with a ute on Waterford Tamborine Rd at Buccan about 2.11pm on Monday.

The 51-year-old rider from Logan Reserve was killed.

The ute driver, a 41-year-old Deception Bay, was not physically injured.

It comes days after ​another crash on the same road​, just 12-minutes south in Yarrabilba on Saturday.

Three people were killed, two others were left in critical condition, and a toddler was also seriously injured in the Yarrabilba crash.

Traffic chaos after Melbourne freeway truck crash

A truck and a ute have crashed on a Melbourne freeway.

Two male drivers were hospitalised after the smash on the Western Fwy, near the Hopkins Rd exit, at Deanside about 4.10am.

The truck driver suffered serious injuries, and the ute driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

They were both taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

“The Western Fwy remains closed Melbourne-bound,” VicTraffic said. “Traffic is heavily congested from the Melton Hwy, resulting in delays exceeding 75 minutes.”

“There is also significant congestion on surrounding roads including Hopkins Rd, Greigs Rd, Sinclairs Rd and Taylors Rd.

“Return access to the Western Fwy is available via Hopkins Rd for northbound traffic only, or from Christies Rd or Robinsons Rd.

“Exit the freeway at Melton and use the Melton Hwy through to the Calder Fwy and M80 Ring Road to save time.”
